How We Score & Test Guitars

Every guitar we review goes through the same 10-point scoring system. We test in real conditions — living rooms, small gigs, practice sessions — not just on a workbench. We buy our own gear, refuse sponsorships, and disclose every affiliate relationship. Below is the exact methodology we use. If you can't trust our score, you can at least trust our transparency.

The 10 Scoring Dimensions

# Dimension Weight What It Means
1Comfort & Fit15%Does the neck feel natural? Any sharp frets or awkward body edges?
2Playability15%How easy is it to press the strings? Is the action low enough for a beginner?
3Sound Quality15%Is the tone balanced? Does it project well? Would you enjoy hearing it every day?
4Build Quality10%Are the joints clean? Any finish flaws? Will it survive a bumpy first year?
5Value for Money15%Does the price match what you get? Would we buy it with our own money?
6Tuning Stability10%Does it stay in tune after 30 minutes of strumming?
7Versatility5%Can it handle different styles, or is it a one-trick pony?
8Hardware Quality5%Are the tuners, bridge, and electronics solid or cheap-feeling?
9Aesthetics5%Does it look good? Would you be proud to show it off?

Update Policy

Prices change, products get discontinued, and new models appear. We review our recommendations every quarter and update scores when meaningful changes occur. If a product drops in quality or a better one arrives, we say so openly.

Conflict of Interest Disclosure

We earn a commission when you buy through our links. This doesn't change our recommendations — if a product isn't good enough, we say so, and we don't link to it. We've turned down thousands in commissions by being honest about what not to buy. Our first loyalty is to you, the reader.
